As many of you may have already heard, on Saturday night, April 7, 2001, the workshop of Dodington & Dodington Pipe Organ Services Inc. was struck by lightning and destroyed by fire. Ross and Linda were home at the time and worked with local fire fighters for over eight hours to extinguish the blaze and did successfully prevent all neighbouring structures from being seriously damaged.
Once it became evident that the fire was terminal, Ross was kept busy with the video camera and thus, we are even able to provide some pictures of the blaze.
Fortunately, no one was hurt, although Linda had to visit the emergency room briefly because her blood pressure became elevated. The emergency physicians quickly got her blood pressure under control and verified that her heart was coping with the stress.
In addition to the building, equipment, tools and an extensive inventory of parts and pipes were lost in the fire, along with two complete organs and part of a third which we were to install after Easter.
The building and contents were insured and plans are already under way for reconstruction of the workshop and replacement of the instruments.
